Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is a game currently in development by Sigil Games Online. The story of Vanguard takes place in a world called Telon. Like our world, it is populated by both males and females. Usually, the males of high fantasy worlds get a lot of attention. However, the women of Telon are just as important as the men and therefore, I have decided to bring to light the role of women in Vanguard.

Everything you would ever need to know is found within the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section of a game's official website. I decided to make my way towards Vanguard's FAQ section.

3.2.1 What is the role of women in the lore of Telon?

Both sexes play a significant role in the lore. As mentioned, Elvara Tuhr journal entries speak of her contributions to New Targonor. Ginna Dalton is another woman who has some key contributions that have been talked about. -- Mike Butler.

So, being the curious person that I am, I vigorously searched through collections of lore. The Ginna Dalton journal entries that I had been able to find were three in total. She mentioned creating a new species of plant. Not such an easy feat, however my desire to learn about the role of women was left unquenched. I decided to continue my search with Elvara Tuhr.

Elvara Tuhr's journal entries are a must read! Elvara had to deal with living a demanding life during war. When a person is subjected to such an ordeal, home is there for them to fall back on. But, this is not the case. Elvara and her family, along with her boyfriend and his son, were forced away from war-torn Targonor. The legions of undead had pushed the humans northeast. Left homeless, Elvara and many others attempted to salvage the little securities of life they had before by building New Targonor. To be a mother during times of peace is such a daunting task. To be a mother during times of war is unimaginable! Elvara Tuhr is no doubt one of the many heroines of Telon.

After reading Elvara Tuhr's journal entries, I did not think it could get any better. Boy was I wrong! After hearing rumors of a heroic woman in Morgan's Tale, I decided to read the story in its entirety. I ran into a few female characters in the first handful of pages. They were Gillian the barmaid, Minister Ardlus' clerk, the librarian, and Sascha the barmaid. It turns out that Gillian is the sister of Morgan Derek, the main character of Morgan's Tale. Finally, I found the heroine I was looking for in Renna. Renna is a stablehand who is friends with Morgan. She is described as a short, slender, and dark brown haired woman wearing dark brown pants and a loose fitting grey tunic. Renna's life was threatened when men, who were on a mission to kill Zanadar and Elandar the Wizard, threatened to kill her horses if she did not give herself up. In an act of heroism, Renna dove off from the top of her stable hiding place and engaged one of the men. She put the life of her trusted steeds ahead of her own, and in doing so, won my respect. She managed to kill one of the bad men and send another one off running with eye wounds. She had been shaken up and cried with the knowledge that she had killed someone. Being the gentle person she is, she never thought she would do such a thing. Another great aspect of Renna was that she was able to tame one of the wildest horses around. Any other person who attemped to mount Grayus would have been thrown through the air in one powerful buck. Renna added much to the group that consisted of herself, Morgan, Zanadar, and Elandar. When the four arrived in Rindol Fields, they needed to ask for directions. The men had failed in attempting to speak to a little halfling, scaring him away with their bulging armor and large weapons. Renna was able to get the little Halfling to open up. Renna's intelligence was shown clearly when she noticed that Zanadar had lied about not recognizing footprints that Dorbin Gamstell, Mayor of Rindol Fields, had pointed out to Morgan. She was able to detect a lie that a ranger with tracking skills could not. The most heroic deed that Renna had done was to save the life of Morgan Derek. When a nasty troll squeezed Morgan tightly within its grasp, Renna charged straight at the troll as she rode Grayus. This caused the troll to be distracted and led to Morgan's escape from the clutches of the troll. If it was not for the actions of Renna, Morgan would have died. Clearly, Renna had earned the title of heroine.

Another special lady is Captain Kasey Umbertoe. Her story can be found in Scouting Ahead. Kasey is described as a strong halfling woman with shoulder length dark brown hair. She uses a two-handed sword and deals death to anything in her way. She is determined to clean up her village not for her own sake, but for the sake of others. She is just one of the many heroic women in Vanguard.

With all of the information fully read, I walk away satisfied knowing the great role that women play in the world of Telon.
