Biography

Kia Ora I'm Rongomai a girl gamer from Poneke, Aotearoa.
(a.k.a Wellington, New Zealand)

I'm what you'd call a born again gamer.

As a kid my life was consumed by the Super Mario brothers and Tetris, I also spent many a week day afternoon thrashing it out on the arcade games at my local corner store until I was almost 12. There was something magical about ripping a boy’s spine out in a round of Mortal Kombat. And seeing that look of utter despair when it dawned on him that he just got his ass handed to him by a girl. Unfortunately at some stage I decided that I'd much rather be kissing boys then destroying their virtual selves on screens. So the gaming stopped and I moved on to being a moody angsty teenage girl.

There are many things that brought me back to gaming.

1. My younger brothers love of Crash Bandicoot
2. His best friends copy of Final Fantasy 7
3. And the way Hwoarang looked in Tekken

I've actually only just freed myself from the Korean fighter. It was somewhat difficult having a meaningful relationship with someone who had two emotions. Angry and cocky. Besides he spent way too much time plotting various forms of revenge for Jin Kazama. That and the blatantly obvious problem of him not being real.

He did however help bring me back to the gaming world. And what a world it is!

I’m a girl gamer and I always will be. On top of that I’m damn proud of it.
