'Towel Trick' Fixing Redlining 360s?

Submitted by thankeeka on January 17, 2007 - 12:10pm. General News

This is one of those so odd it might be true stories I had to post it. Had I known about this a month ago, I would've tried it on my red light flashing Xbox 360. Apparently, if your 360 is giving you the red lights of death, you can heal it by wrapping it in a towel. Yes, sounds weird, but there are believers everywhere who have had it work for them.

From the article:

The Towel Trick falls into the same "you didn't hear it from us" school of home appliance repair as the old wives' tale about banging your iPod on hard surfaces to bring it back from the land of the dead (aside: this last one totally works, I have personally verified it).

So, what IS the Towel Trick? Okay, let's say your 360 has a nasty habit of suddenly shutting down and flashing red lights at you, without otherwise responding to your commands. What should you do?

1. DON'T PANIC.
2. Grab your trusty towel.
3. Wrap the Xbox 360 in it. Turn it on for 15 minutes or so.
4. Remove Towel. Ding! You're done.
