State of PS3: UK Sales Down 82%, Japan Prefers Wii

Poor Sony, all they want is a friend. They used to be the top of the top, and now they're just falling down the hill and trying to find a handgrip so they can start moving back upwards or at least not fall anymore. The PS3 needs some much needed games - I have two the entire it has been out so far. Makes for a great PS2 unit though, which I never had.

From the article:

A downward slide in PS3 figures is predictable of course -- a state of launch hysteria is only maintainable for so long (and the early adopters already have their free HDTVs). The figure of 82% comes from UK-based market research firm Chart Track, who also confirmed a sales figure of 165,000 PS3s over the launch's first two days.

"Yes, sales of PS3 hardware have dropped by 82 per cent," said a spokesperson for Chart Track. "We publish the first week figures because there's such a clamour for them that we can't keep it a secret."

The same article confirms that demand for the PS3's two best-selling games -- Resistence: Fall of Man and Motorstorm have also decreased by 60%. The question, then, is whether this is simply a standard drop-off from post-launch -- it'll take a few months to figure that one out.
