Nyko HD Link HD Component Audio/Video Cables – Review (Wii)

HDLinkWiiWith the rise in HD televisions invading the home front, it was only a matter of time before consoles started getting in on the trend. Microsoft was first, and it was soon followed by the PS3, and Wii. The problem with the Wii, however, is that the cables you needed were grossly undersupplied by Nintendo, forcing people to have to search high and low for even a glimpse of them. Along comes Nyko though with a solution to diminish those troubles.

When it comes to audio/video cables, you can't really write a tremendously long piece, because all you really do is tick off the bullet points and say whether they work or not (and really, isn't that all you care about anyways?)

Your purchase of Nyko's HD Link HD Component Audio/Video Cables (HD Link from here on) provides you with high end Y, Ph, and Pr component cable connection for the Nintendo Wii. The cables support widescreen as well as 480p resolution. Stereo sound and shielded cables for interference-free audio and video round out the package. One of the nicest things about the package was the cord length, which comes in at eight feet, meaning that you should be able to hook your Wii up anywhere you want if you are using these cables.

Stylistically, the HD Link is attractive with the dominant color of the cables being the Wii white. Of course, you need color codes on cables to hook them up properly, so tiny banded streaks of red, blue, and green will tell you what plug goes where. An engraved Nyko brand rests on the ends of each plug. It's good to see that Nyko decided to focus the central color on being the same white as Nintendo used for the Wii.

When it came to performance, we didn't really notice much of an issue. With our Wii plugged up with the cables, it didn't look dramatically better than the original cords Nintendo packed in with their system, but perhaps there was a little improvement there. We've seen a few other reviews where the cables provided a fuzzy or worse picture, but that wasn't the case for us during our trial review of the HD Link.

The Wii isn't much of a graphical powerhouse, nor does it support the level of quality HD such as the Xbox 360 or PS3 currently. However, if you want the Wii video to look the best it can, the Nyko HD Link HD Component Audio/Video Cables isn't a bad choice.
