'Nyko Dual Charger AC' Review (PS3)

DualChargeACIf anything, this generation of consoles has spoiled me considerably. I never much cared for wireless controllers when things like the Wavebird were coming out, but now that wireless controllers are coming that way out of the box, well, I'm spoiled rotten. However, though you aren't attached by cords any longer, battery life and power is the new hindrance, and they always seem to want to run out right when you need them, and the PS3 is especially bad because of the relatively short cable you must use to charge the controller while you play. Along comes Nyko to fix everything with its Dual Charger AC, and now there are no controller power problems.

Charging the PS3 Sixaxis controller while you play is a drag, because the cord is so short; given, I'm not playing from a mile away to begin with, but instead of being able to relax on the bed, I've got to sit on the edge or risk ripping the cord from the USB slot of the PS3. However, charging up the controller while you play is a necessity of PS3 gaming…or so it was.

The Nyko Dual Charger AC is a simple device with no fuss and no hassle. The purpose of the Dual Charger is that it allows you to plug the device into any regular two prong house port and using the included cables, charge up your PS3 controllers while you are away from your PS3 and have it powered off, so you'll never have to charge your controllers again while playing your system. And you know what? It works great.

For starters, from a purely aesthetic standpoint, the device is small as it should be, being only big enough to hold the plug port, the two USB slots, and the inner workings needed to get it all going. The Dual Charger also sports a nice and slick reflective black finish, which mirrors the style of the PS3 perfectly. The best thing, however, is the fold-away power plug, which stashes inside the Dual Charger when you are storing it, and is easily snapped out into position when you need to use it (the fold-away power plug is like that on the DS Lite charger).

The Dual Charger also comes with two 4-foot charge cables, which are great if your plug is in an out of the way place, as this length will let you stash the Dual Charger in some out of the way place if that is the only plug you have available, but once the cord is attached your controllers should reach almost anywhere. However, beyond charging just your PS3 Sixaxis controllers, you can also use the device to charge other USB compatible devices.

So, you've got a functional and good-looking device that charges your PS3 controllers just like you need it to do so and just like it says it will. Yep, can't find any problems whatsoever with the Nyko Dual Charger AC.
