Get Your Girl into Video Games in Seven Steps

Submitted by thankeeka on December 4, 2006 - 8:57am. Females in Gaming News

Why, oh why, must various articles put me in this delicate position? A few of the tips do indeed generally sound like good advice to get your significant female other into videogames, but oh boy is this article bound to piss some people off. Women in various compromising positions involving a sexual suggestion with videogame peripherals. More jokes about spousal abuse. Women regarded nothing more than sexual objects. Yeah, just another day reporting the news.

Don’t let the facts and figures confuse you; girl gamers are a rare and special breed. I mean, honestly, how many girls do you know talk smack over Xbox Live during a rousing game of Halo 2? Yea, that’s what I thought. But hey, if you want to get your girl interested in playing video games with you, don’t get discouraged. It’s easier than you think to turn any Plain Jane into the next egotistical attention whore that will draw the salivations of sexless virgins while she ignores your desires in order to fulfill her depressing need for attention. At least you won’t die alone.

So relax, take our hand, and walk down a sandy beach with Gaming Out Loud as we detail the steps involved in turning your chick from a Chatty Kathy to a Pwnin’ Patti.

Ugh, Id vomit if I wasnt so

Ugh, Id vomit if I wasnt so stunned by how stupid that article is. I really cant stand that kind of "bad boy" humour guys like that use to give their own egos a boost. Did they really think about those "seven steps" at all, or was it all just something to bring about the next sexist joke in the article?

Its sheer stupidity to think you can force a person to like games, let alone your partner. Im sure if plenty of people, both male and female, sat down to a few rounds of Halo 2 on live, without ever playing the game before, there would be two outcomes. Some would either find it boring and offensive, with the same amount of childish humour that seems to run rampant in these "seven steps", coming from the mouths of plenty of players, who would no doubt continually "pwn" them. Then proceed to never play a video game again.

And I suppose the others would infact feel like playing more, since they would find it enjoyable, and want to improve. But I obviously cant speak for everyone, because to do so would make me as stupid as those who wrote the "seven steps". Those who seem to think that should the readers have girlfriends, they are certain to enjoy games, or at least will do eventually, for no other reason than being forced to by their boyfriends. Having different tastes has got nothing to do with it, right?

Sometimes Im stuck between being ashamed or getting frustrated, simply becuase Im of the same gender as these cave men.

I read the article and

I read the article and thought to myself, you've got to be kidding.
The biggest problem with these articles is that every gamer wants a gamer girlfriend. It's pretty much saying, "If she doesn't game, she's not worth your time." So to fix this, Make her a gamer! And follow these "amazing steps" to transform her into the PwnStar of your dreams!
(Yes I did vomit a little in my mouth)
Sure some of these might actually help a little if you want to introduce your girl to gaming, hopefully the unnecessary sexual and objectification of your women will be omitted in your process.
My worse fear is the fact that someone might actually take this seriously instead of a joke and attempt the "7 Easy steps". I put up serious money on that person being smacked up side the head by step one.
