Often times, women gamers have a hard time with online games, especially MMOs, and trying to find their place when other players like to hide behind the anonymity of the internet to be jerks, including many sexist and derogatory comments towards women gamers. So, in a MMO specifically, how do you go about finding a female friendly guild?
From the article:
Finding a guild/linkshell/clan that is female-friendly is easier than you might imagine in most games. (Admittedly, the reason I quit playing Guild Wars is because I couldn’t find one). In FFXI, I just played well in groups, and when I noticed one or more people with good attitudes, I asked if I could join their LS. I ended up, in the over a year I played, in two different and very good LSs. One was headed up by a young woman, and the other by a man, but they both had low tolerance for -isms of any sort in Linkshell chat.
Currently I play World of Warcraft, and am an officer in a large guild on the Alliance side. Our guild has set up and enforced specific “PG13″ guild chat rules: No obscenity or crudeness until the younguns are in bed (we have a special guild rank for players 16 and under), and no -isms ever, for any reason.
